I was just surfing around, waiting for Kate to wake up, and came across this site with its top post (from yesterday) about WubbaNubs! I could totally relate to this post because ... 1) Kate loves her purple frog paci (what we call her WubbaNub) and ... B) several months ago, I found myself placing a late-night Internet order for several pacis (though not quite 40--and I went with two-day shipping instead of overnight) because we had left the ONE AND ONLY paci that the hospital gave us--the only paci that Kate would take--at Tanna's parents' house. It was a Kool & the Gang Emergency! (Anyone remember that song and album? Cherish the love ... cherish the life.)
ANYWAY ... the pacis I ordered that infamous night were the famous GumDrops, available via Hawaii Medical, which is actually in the Boston area. You can't buy these pacis in the store, folks, which is why they are so valuable. Around Atlanta, you can recognize a lot of Northside babies because they receive GumDrops there in the hospital. Like I mentioned, at the time, it was the only paci that Kate would take. Fortunately, the order arrived in time, and all was well in the land. (Although ... Tanna had driven all the way back to his parents' house the next morning before work to get the original hospital GumDrop. What a man ... what a man!)
Well, I was shopping on the Internet one day around that same time and came across WubbaNubs on the Baby Dagny site. I thought they looked weird and maybe even a bit creepy, but they were on sale and seemed very popular (even among celebs), according to my scientific Internet research. So I ordered several--they do make great gifts, after all! It was a risky move--especially since Kate had not taken any paci but her beloved GumDrop--but I guess I was feeling particularly crazy that day. (Hey, we were still in the it's-a-big-deal-to-leave-the-house phase.)
I guess I should explain the concept--take a Soothie paci (Soothies are a lot like GumDrops) and sew it (or attach it in some safe way) to a little stuffed animal. That way, babies can hold onto the animal while they soothe away. Also, it makes finding a lost paci much easier! (Back in the day, Tanna didn't understand the need to have a bunch of extra pacis, but now I think he does. Those things just like to disappear on their own.)
There are all kinds of animals available, but we got the purple frog because that's what was on sale. Well, after we FINALLY received the order (it took forever, by the way), I was very happy that Kate not only took the purple frog paci (what we call it), but she LOVED it! And she still does. I think her favorite is still her GumDrop, of which we still have several, but she loves her purple frog(s)--she actually has two. I've given a few as gifts as well. I know Amelia, Kate's friend in Knoxville, loves her purple frog paci as well. As you can see from the accompanying photo, the two of them were adorable with their matching purple frogs back in November! Well, they're adorable anyway ... but you know what I mean. ;o)
the paci's tend to disappear on their own, huh? sounds like user error. ha! great job honey, excellent writing as always. i'll have to link you on my various websites.
ReplyDeleteAmelia is still lovin' her paci frog. The dog licked it, and it had to be retired for a day or two until I could get it through the wash, and she was REALLY glad to have it back!
