It's been a month since I first posted about our adoption plans, so I thought I would give a quick update. In the last few weeks, we have completed a ton of paperwork, and we still have just a couple of forms that we need to finish up. Tanna and I both have answered a bunch of very personal questions. (My personal favorite: What role does your physical relationship play in your marriage? (Or something like that.) LOL!) We both have had individual interviews with our case worker and have been fingerprinted. We've had medical forms to complete; I had a doctor's appointment the other day and got a tetanus shot and a TB skin test. We are waiting on a few references to be returned to the adoption office (thank you to our references!) and just a few other details to come together so we can have our home visit.
Once our home visit is complete, our case worker has 30 days to write up her report for our home study. If all is approved, then the waiting begins. After the home study approval, the typical wait for a referral (or "match") for our program is a year to 18 months. When the referral is accepted and approved, etc., then there is another three- to six-month wait for the child to be physically placed in our arms. :o) Of course, all of that is IF everything goes along as planned. And that is a very big IF. From everything I have read and have been told, patience and flexibility are very important throughout this process. Anyway, that is the update! Thanks for your prayers--we appreciate them very much!
what a journey you are about to embark on! my hubby was adopted at age 4 to caucasian parents and he has had a wonderful experience! do you read the blog 'bring the rain' by angie smith- a friend of her's is adrienne who has a 3yr old son adopted from Russia and is in the process of adopting another baby 'lilly' from korea. she would be a great pillar of strength if you needed someone who has gone through the process of adoption, the good and the bad, and how to Trust God's plan Always! http://www.our-journey-to-parenthood.blogspot.com/

ReplyDeleteI agree with Donna! This will be one lucky baby to have you guys! Hope everything goes as planned and you don't have to wait too long! Keep us updated as often as possible, I've been wondering... :)
ReplyDeleteBest of luck through the whole process. I am so excited to follow you through this! Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteOkay, so I've been catching up on a lot of your blog tonight - I missed so much with being in and out this summer. So, I've been trying to go back and read and get the story. First of all, I want to say that I am so terribly sorry for your miscarriage. Oh, I hate that. I've been there a couple of times, most recently this year and it just stinks! So, I'm sorry and praying for you. Also, yay on the adoption process and how it came together to get started. Isn't it amazing how God works. We have also been thinking and praying through adoption - still don't have a clear direction we are heading but excited about the possibilities. I look forward to reading more about your journey. Praying for you!
