Country Roads Take Me Home

Kate and I went to Tennessee on Sunday to see family and to celebrate my Great Aunt Edith's 90th birthday (more on that in a later post).

Driving the back roads of East Tennessee is like going back in time! LOL! Mom and I saw some of these old-timey cars in Johnson City on Sunday afternoon. Well, yesterday morning, when I was driving from by brother's house to my parents' house, I probably passed about 100 of them. No joke! I guess they were on their way to a car show or something near the airport. It was fun to see them all.

I was guessing the route they were taking from Johnson City to Blountville to avoid the Interstate, and I think I was right. (I drove part of that same route, just going the other way.) These little yellow markers showed them the way at each turn.

We saw lots of cows on our drive, and Kate LOVED looking at them. She kept saying, "BIG COWS! BIG COWS!" LOL! Speaking of driving down country roads, on Sunday I was driving from my Mom and Dad's house to my brother's house. I hadn't driven those particular back roads in years. I could not remember the route in my head, but I knew the general direction I needed to go. So I started out. It was funny because once I started driving, I instintively knew where to turn and how to get there. It was like trying to recall an old song: If someone asks you the lyrics, you can't recite them. But if you hear the song being played, then you can sing along and not miss a word.

This little guy (gal?) is a neighbor of my brother's.

We had a nice visit with Johnny, Anne and the girls. Here are Anna-Claire, Abigail and Kate just before bedtime.

Yesterday morning, we picked up Mom and headed out to Gray Station to put flowers on my grandparents' grave. My grandmother's birthday was just last week. Growing up, Mom would take us to Decoration Day at a couple of churches to decorate some of our relatives' graves. We would see family and friends there each year as well.

My grandparents' headstone with my great-grandparents' gravesite in the background.

We met Grampy for lunch at Bob Evans before heading back to Atlanta. Kate loves Bob Evans' sausage and bacon.

  1. Karen-
I love reading your blog every day. I feel a little bit like a stalker since I don't know you personally, but I feel like I know you from reading all of your stories! You always manage to make me laugh or cry with your posts. Keep up the good work!
Now I will explain how I ended up reading your blog (so you don't think I really am a stalker!). My friend Kristy Black had you linked on her site. So I was reading through some of your posts when I figured out you were married to Tanna Lim. My husband and I were in CCF with Tanna at Georgia Tech and I immediatly started reading all of your postings so I could catch up on how Tanna was doing. You'll have to ask him if he remembers us- Evan and Lori Bryant. And tell him that I am glad to see that he married such a neat lady!
It had been nice getting to know you Karen! best Wishes!
