I have said it before, and I will say it again: It is so nice to know other families who are going through the adoption process. I have met many friends--both online and IRL--during our journey, and I am so thankful for these relationships. Local friends are especially great because we can get together and celebrate and/or commiserate with each other in person. And once all our children come home, they will have nearby playmates with similar experiences.
Our social worker recently sent out an e-mail to families in our program, asking if folks were interested in being on a contact list to share with the agency's other Korea families in process. We were more than willing to be a part of the list, so we were sure to respond--and we soon received an e-mail with contact info for other families who thought the same. We exchanged a few get-to-know-you e-mails, and recently got together at friends Sam and Amy's house for a potluck dinner. Seven families were able to participate, and it was wonderful to see some familiar faces as well as to meet some new friends.
This was our first social outing as a family of four--and I have to admit, I was a pretty exhausted by the time we got home. LOL! Kate was pretty excited about life that evening and kept running all over Amy and Sam's house. And Isaac was pretty smitten with their dog, Molly, and wanted to chase her everywhere--not to mention ... he took a big chunk of fur out of their cat. (Sorry!) They were so gracious about it all, though (even the cat).
Thank you, Amy and Sam, for hosting such a great event! We are looking forward to the next gathering and hope even more families can participate.
Sam and Amy and the gorgeous cake that Amy made for the event.
It was just as delicious as it was beautiful. The rose of Sharon--which Amy designed and featured on the cake--is the national flower of South Korea.

Hey! I know those people. Isaac is being shy. ha!
Hey--look at these cuties! Isaac wore his kimchee-delivery shirt for the event.
There he goes ... chasing the dog ... (It was pretty funny!) They are both pretty fast!
A rare moment of the kids sitting still--they were watching Gabba ... just for a minute.
Thanks again to everyone--and especially to Amy and Sam for hosting. Hope to see you all soon!
Networking with other families is wonderful! Kate is looking so grown up!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean by how busy it is to have a family of four outing!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad and happy for y'all. You are so blessed to have a great support system too.
That is wonderful that you have found other families that have or will be adopting from Korea that live nearby. What a blessing!
