Dduk Guk

A Korean New Year's celebration is not complete without dduk guk, which is rice cake and dumpling soup with (optional) roasted seaweed and egg. Eaten on Jan. 1 for good luck, health and long life, dduk guk is part of the traditional start to the new year. It is typically eaten first thing in the morning.

  1. That is a nice tradition. I think my DH would love it. He just got Chloe into eating seaweed with him. Me, not so much. Oh well, he can't win everyone over, LOL. Happy New Year :)

  2. Karen, I love your blog. I love the soup too. We just started our Korean adoption journey. We originally planned to adopt from China, but after a year into it, we realized that we needed to switch. I'm so interested in learning more about Korean culture and traditions, so I've really enjoyed reading your blog. thanks SAL
