This is a good-news story of a family in Iowa who is (was?) mere weeks away from picking up the daughter they are adopting from Haiti. I first saw coverage of this story last night, as I watched Nightline. The mother's voice immediately was familiar to me. (I recognize voices better than faces sometimes!) I realized she was on some of the training videos that Tanna and I watched as part of our adoption training. (She and her husband have adopted before, obviously.) They were interviewed on Good Morning America this morning.
I am heartbroken for the people of Haiti--and for those here who hope and wait for good news about their loved ones there. News is not easy to come by, and reports can be conflicting. A Facebook group--Haiti Earthquake Hotel Montana--is an online community of family, friends and those who want to help share information about those who were staying at the hotel, which collapsed. I have a hard time tearing myself away from the computer as I search the site and the Internet for any new information that I could share. It's another way to help in addition to praying and giving financially. People are hungry for any news, images ... any updates on this specific rescue operation that may provide hope as the hours pass and minutes become more critical. Please keep praying--for the victims who are trapped, for the rescue workers, for the families--those who have lost loved ones and those who are still waiting to hear and who are hoping for the best possible outcomes.
ETA: I told my friend Kristi about the Facebook group, and she mentioned it to a fellow reporter in the Knoxville area. He called yesterday and asked me a few questions about it. Here is the story he wrote.
Thanks for your updates, it just tears my heart out watching all of the coverage. I watched an interview with a 12 year old Haitian girl that broke my heart, she had lost all of her family, but said she would not leave Haiti.
