Bomb Scare in Times Square: We Were There!

Last Saturday night, we were in NYC. We had just arrived that afternoon and had a late lunch/early dinner. After getting back to our hotel, we decided to head down to Times Square. We still had a few hours before bedtime, and we wanted to take Kate to the big Toys R Us. And so we were off!

We stayed in midtown, so our walk wasn't too far. On the way, we overheard what we thought was someone saying Times Square was closed, but we weren't sure exactly what was said or what it meant. When we got there, we quickly realized that some of Times Square was indeed blocked off. So we walked as far as we could--right up to the blockade, which was directly across the street from Toys R Us (on that particular street, anyway). Ugh. "If only Toys R Us was on the other side of the street," I was thinking. Ha!

We had no idea why the street was blocked or what was going on. No one in the crowd seemed to know, either. (Yes, I asked.) Lots of people were there, looking. We did hear some sort of explosion, but I'm not sure what exactly that was. Tanna wondered if some sort of movie was being filmed, but on the walk back to our hotel, we saw some news trucks and figured something newsworthy must be going on.

Later that evening, I saw online that there had been some sort of bomb threat, but we had no idea how big a deal it really was. I am thankful that no one was hurt and that the police force did such a great job of clearing the area. We did make it to Toys R Us a few days later. ;o)
