Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church

I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD. --Psalm 122:1

On Sunday morning, Kate and I attended Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church--which happened to be just a hop, skip and a jump from our hotel. (Tanna was in conference meetings, so he met up with us later.) It turns out that the Rev. Dr. Thomas Long of Emory University was the guest preacher at Fifth Avenue that day! Who knew that we would travel all the way to New York City to hear a theology professor from Atlanta speak? He spoke about grace, and his sermon was excellent. The Texas Tech University Choir was in attendance and performed beautifully. The choir also performed that evening--at none other than Carnegie Hall! It is so nice to be able to worship with fellow believers when we are out of town. Even though we may not know each other personally, we are all brothers and sisters in Christ.

Hey--this looks very familiar!

Dr. Long greets people after the 11 a.m. service. He was very nice. Fifth Avenue's senior pastor is The Rev. Dr. Scott Black Johnston, another Atlanta connection. Dr. Johnston previously served as senior pastor of Atlanta's Trinity Presbyterian Church.

Kate stayed in the nursery during the worship service and had a great time. She wanted to stay and play when it was time to pick her up.

Mr. X outside of the beautiful church building. Fifth Avenue Presbyterian runs a homeless shelter and participates in many other community outreaches.

  1. How crazy! as soon as I read the title of this post I said "That's where Scott went!". We used to go to Trinity Pres and it was because of Scott that we joined. Love him!
