Airports and Mouse Ears

Last month, my sister and her family went to Disney World for spring break. If you know my sister, then it will come as no surprise to you that she had been planning this trip for months. You haven't seen detail-oriented until you have seen her in action--LOL! But that is another post for another day. Anyway, they flew to Florida from Tennessee--and on the way there and back, they had layovers in the ATL. I was so glad that it worked out for me to drive down to the airport to see them both times.

I love the energy of airports. I love thinking about all the people--where they are going, where they are coming from. There is so much emotion at airports--the hellos, the goodbyes. Both can be so tearful. I used to always want to be greeted at the airport by a driver with my name on a sign--LOL! I finally got my wish when I traveled to Uruguay for work several years ago--and I took a picture (of course) of Esteban (my driver and now a friend) and the sign. Ha! I'll have to find it and scan it in sometime. But I digress ...

So these days I like to make signs for folks when I meet them at the airport. And last month was no exception. :o) One thing I love about the Atlanta airport is that all the arriving passengers come up the escalators (or the elevator) from the tram area at the same place. So you can see all sorts of arrivals and greetings in one place. That is where I met my sister's family on their trip down. We ate lunch together and had a nice visit before they had to be on their way.

Wouldn't this be a nice photo if my BIL wouldn't make such crazy faces?

Me and the girls

My sister with just a fraction of her research material ... LOL! (Seriously, though, all of her forethought paid off--they had a FABULOUS time and really experienced a lot of fun things. They really did Disney right!)

I met them again on their return trip. It was so fun to see how excited they were to tell me about their vacation. Unfortunately, at that time, our camera was out of commission, so I don't have any photos--which is too bad because the girls looked so cute in their mouse ears. They brought Kate a pair of mouse ears that light up! They are very fun, but Kate will not keep them on her head. She does, however, LOVE to see other people (namely, Tanna and me) wear them. If she sees them across the room, she will point to them and say "at! at!" (her word for "hat") until you get them and put them on. Or ... she will go get them herself and bring them to you to wear.

Case in point: This is how I was greeted when I returned from an OOT trip earlier this month:

Kate had insited that her Ah-Pah wear the mouse ears.

Last week, I kept trying to get Kate to put the ears on, but she kept taking them off. This is a rare shot of them still on her head. Thanks for the mouse ears, guys!

  1. I love airports, too, Karen!!!! They fascinate me.

Won't it be fun when Kate is old enough and those big girls can show her the ropes of Disney!??!

  2. What fun pictures- they look so excited to be heading to DW! That was great that you got to go and visit with them both times.

We love our Mickey ears from the Skaggs family too. Anna-Claire practically wore hers to bed one night. She loves them, but you know she has a thing for head gear.
I think it is so sweet Kate wants you and Tanna to wear her ears. Tanna looks great as a Mouseketeer!
    bly!
