My Sweet Girl

I want to write about a couple of things before I forget.

Kate recently started giving kisses. We've tried off and on to show her how to kiss, but she never seemed interested. Also, I've tried to get her to play with some of her dolls, but she's never seemed interested in those, either.

There is one Cabbage Patch doll in particular that I have been putting in her crib with her when she sleeps--half the time, it ends up on the floor. Her Aunt Robin gave it to her in the hospital when she was born, so it is special. Most of the time, Kate is more interested in stealing the baby's paci than actually holding her or playing with her. (Seriously, she will take the doll's paci and walk around with it in her mouth--crazy girl!)

A couple of weeks ago, I was putting Kate to bed, and on a whim I said, "Give your baby a kiss." Lo and behold, she scooted over to the doll (which was toward the other end of the crib), bent over and gave her a little kiss--or at least her version of a kiss. :o) I couldn't believe it! I called Tanna into her room, and she did it again! We were in shock! I talk to her all the time, but most of the time I never know if she knows what I am saying to her. I guess she does.

Along those same lines, in recent weeks she has started to respond to more commands and requests. For example, when we say, "Let's go change your diapee," she walks to her room and stands by her dresser/changing table. She also knows what to do when I say, "Let's put your socks and shoes on." She will grab them (if they are nearby and I don't already have them in hand), back up to me and sit on my lap. It's so cute!

This afternoon, she was sitting on my lap, and we were eating some Chex snack mix together. She doesn't eat the pretzels, so she would deliberately pick them up and hold them up to my mouth until I ate them from her hand. So sweet! I am not even a big pretzel person, but how could I not eat what she was offering to me?

Of course, not too much later, she was screaming because I took something away from her, but those sweet moments just melt my heart.

Here are some pics of Kate with her doll that I took last month:

  3. She is so adorable. It is such a blessing that you can stay at home with her and experience her growing up, it is the greatest gift my ex-husband ever gave me!! Treasure it!
