This evening, our Bible study small group got together over at Pam's gorgeous home for dinner and a movie. We watched One Night with the King, a motion picture based on the biblical story of Esther. We are working our way through Beth Moore's study of Esther, hence the film choice.
Esther has been a favorite Bible character of mine for some time now. Because the Word of God is living and active (Hebrews 4:12), I am seeing it with fresh eyes this fall. We'll be studying Esther's incredible story for weeks to come, and I am still processing my thoughts. But one thing about Esther that takes on new meaning for me this year is that she was an orphan, raised by her cousin Mordecai.
Our small group is made up of some amazing women--most of whom I am still getting to know. It's so important to have friends who can pray for each other and be real with each other, even when it comes to our shortcomings (of which I have many!). We missed several of our small-group members tonight due to other commitments, etc., but we had a very nice evening with Queen Esther and King Xerxes. I am thankful for these sisters in Christ, the true King and with whom we are co-heirs of God.
We are God's children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. --Romans 8:16-17
I did the ESTHER study this summer with a group of friends and we planned on watching the movie as a finale, but never got around to it! We need to do that! Sounds like you guys had a great time.
