I just returned a little while ago from seeing Julie & Julia. I've been wanting to catch it since I first heard about it. Di and I went to a matinee over at Phipps. The movie is great--very cute. I highly recommend it.
The most poignant scene in the film has nothing to do with cooking or blogging. It comes when Julia receives word, via a letter, that her sister is pregnant. The news brings her to tears. The scene brought me to tears. Meryl Streep is a brilliant actress, conveying beautifully the mixed and complicated emotions that such news can bring: such sincere happiness for her sister, but also such deep sadness as she is reminded of what she doesn't have.
