Lining Things Up

Kate still loves to line things up! We frequently find lines of various toys and other small items around the house. This used to be a cause for concern--and sometimes I do worry about it a bit--but all seems to be well with Kate and her development. As the developmental pediatrician said last year, it seems she just has some quirky personality traits. Don't we all, though? :o)

She also likes to shut all the doors in the house. I have been working on a list of various things about Kate the last couple of months. Need to get some of those things posted. Until then ... here are some photos of Kate's handiwork ...

P.S. A lot of times, after she forms a line of things, she will say, "Look at all these toys!" (Or cars or whatever she is lining up ... suckers, pacis, eggs, etc.) She also will say, "Great job, Kate!" The other day, when she lined up all the crayons (top photo), she kept calling it beautiful. :o)

P.P.S. Notice the Gabbas are in the order they appear in the Gabba intro song, and the extra Foofa we have is on the end. Just wanted to make a note of it.

  2. Okay - so I'm so glad to know that my daughter isn't the only one who lines things up! (although Kate's lines are really long - goes to show she can focus on tasks really well! ;)

My Claire also likes 'groupings'. I'll find 3 Cinderellas on the window sill, with all the Sleeping Beauties on the Book Shelf. Those crazy kiddos! ;)

And where did you get the Yo Gabba Gabba figurines? I haven't seen those! I wish they made a DJ Lance Rock. I think I'd keep that one. ;)

  3. Hey! I ordered the Gabba figures from Toys R Us back before Christmas. I did a quick search on the Web site and didn't see them. They came as a set. I did find them on amazon at a ridiculous price of $89.90!!! Crazy! Target also sold them as individuals (hence, our extra Foofa); I bought her and a couple others for gifts back at the Target 75% toy clearance. I would LOVE a DJ Lance Rock figure. We do have the hat and glasses--my brother wore them last Halloween. It was a hit!

  7. Oh I do stuff like that. I'm told it's Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (Dad calls it Obsessive Compulsive Order since there's clearly no disorder about it.) The crayons are beautiful!

She's right, it is beautiful. Great job Kate!
She would LOVE Montessori. She'd have a lot of opportunity to line things up, put things away, straighten, make patterns with materials, etc.

  9. Parenting Magazine had an article on this last month and they said that it's not always related to autism. It says that often kids at this age will do this because they're becoming much more aware of all of the details of their surroundings and lining things up and organizing them is a way for them to make sense of the world. Jasper does it too, most often with his cars or trains and he puts them in order by size or color, etc. So, no worries! :)
