Last week, Kate and I headed up to Duluth to check out Disney's A Christmas Carol Train Tour. Really, though, it was just a visit to the Southeastern Railway Museum. You see, the Southeastern Railway Museum was hosting the tour, and we ended up not doing the tour stuff ... unless you count a little snowflake tattoo that Kate got.
I was a little skeptical of there being anything appropriate for kids Kate's age, but I made the drive anyway ... just in case. It seemed like such a neat thing, and it was only in town for one day. When we got there, I asked some other moms in the parking lot how long the wait was to get in. I'd read on the Internet that waiting in line could take hours (yes, hours). They said the wait was about an hour--and also said it wasn't worth the wait for toddlers because there wasn't much for them. (It really appeals to older children and to adults.) However, they did suggest checking out the other trains and things the Southeastern Railway Museum had. And so we did.
While we were walking from the parking lot, the chatter I heard around me was that the power had just gone out on the Disney train, and they had to shut the thing down until it got up and running again. So even if we'd wanted to see inside, it wasn't happening then. That was OK, though. Kate did get a kiddie tattoo on her had, and then we bought tickets for a little train ride. They were only $1 each. (I did feel bad for folks who'd been waiting in line for so long ... and then nothing. Ugh. What a drag.)
Kate had fun on our train ride, though it seemed like it took forever for us to get going. Maybe that's because I had a toddler who didn't want to stand (or sit) still while we waited. LOL! Anyway, Kate really enjoyed herself.
Also on the property are other train cars and engines for kids to explore--pretty neat stuff. And the folks there who were on staff (or volunteers?) were very knowledgeable and friendly. By the way, they do birthday parties there, too! Sounds like a cool place for a little boy's (or little girl's) birthday party if you ask me. The Disney train is gone, but if you have a train-loving child, then you definitely should check out the Southeastern Railway Museum if you're in the area.
Stopping for a photo on our way back to the car. We didn't really do anything Disney, but it was still a fun outing. Kate loved the train ride, but I think her favorite thing was splashing in the puddles in the parking lot. She still talks about it. :o)
How fun! I had no idea about this! Too bad it was only one day, and not closer to Christmas!
