Scarecrows in the Garden / Fest-of-Ale

October 1 marked the official opening of Scarecrows in the Garden at Atlanta Botanical Gardens. That evening also was the first of the venue's Fest-of-Ale events, which take place each Thursday during October. So we headed on over when Tanna got home from work.

I had been to see the scarecrows on display a few days before. And I have to say ... I was disappointed in the placement of Kate's school's scarecrow exhibit. I thought it would be perfect over in the children's section--or even in a more prominent place. But it's kind of tucked away down toward the bottom of a side path. It's still adorable, though. ;o) I did see several people stop and take pictures of it, and kids that walked by really did seem to enjoy it. So ... yay!

Anyway, it was fun to go and see the scarecrows once they all were "officially" up and ready for viewing. (A few days prior (before opening day), they were up but didn't have their signage, and some needed a few finishing touches, etc.) The atmosphere at Fest-of-Ale was very festive (of course)--and the weather was perfect. The children's garden closes at dusk, though--so if you go with the kids (there were plenty there--it's not an adults-only sort of thing), you may want to keep that in mind. There is live music, too.

Kate had a blast running around, and it was a fun family outing. More than 100 scarecrows are up for your viewing pleasure. There are some really cute and creative ones--and some that are kind of strange. I tried to get pics of all of them--but I'll just post a few here. ha! The scarecrows will be up for the rest of the month--so if you get a chance, be sure to check them out. (You might want to go sooner rather than later, though, to see them in their best condition. But that's just my opinion.) And be thinking about making one of your own for next year!

Here's Kate in front of "Garden Goodies," our family's favorite scarecrow. ;o)

This little girl is on the go!

Deep in thought ...

Oh yeah--Moore in America, an exhibition featuring 20 of Henry Moore's sculptures, runs through the end of the month, too.

I like 11Alive's Commuter Dude scarecrow.

This one from The Weather Channel is pretty neat, too.

And here are just a few more scarecrow entries that caught my eye:
