Hannah Montana

With Miley Cyrus being in the news recently, I thought I'd write about her ... and Hannah Montana.

I am pretty sure that this time last year, I had no idea who Hannah Montana was. Maybe I'd heard the name a time or two, but I think I thought it was some sort of cartoon? I don't know. (Yes, this is coming from someone who grew up on country music--you'd think I'd have a clue who Billy Ray's daughter is.)

Anyway, I have since been educated. I guess it started when the daughter of a friend of mine dressed up as Hannah Montana for Halloween. Since then, I have learned a lot! Our nieces love Hannah Montana (as well as High School Musical--I now know enough about that to carry on a conversation at least). It's fun to watch them "rock out the show," singing the songs, etc.

A few months back, my sister and I took her girls (Rebekah and Riley) to see the much-talked-about Hannah Montana movie, Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert Tour. Whew, I think I got the name right. If you remember, this was a very limited release, supposedly only playing in less than 1,000 theaters. Also, supposedly, it was only playing for a few days. (Oh, but later, due to "demand" (and a marketing plan), this "limited engagement" was extended. But that's another story.) Anyway, it was playing at a theater not too far from where we live--and my nieces were going to be in town on opening weekend. I was excited to score some tickets! Yay!

We had fun at the 3-D movie--I hadn't been to the movies in a while, and I hadn't seen a 3-D film in quite some time. (Loved the 3-D concert scenes with the confetti flying everywhere--you just wanted to reach out and grab it!) I learned all about Miley Cyrus and Hannah Montana ... and even The Jonas Brothers. I thought Miley's song about her grandfather was so sweet, and (confession) I may have even teared up a little.

After the movie, we signed a big banner and posters for fans, snapped some pics, and saw the huge line of little girls and their parents or grandparents waiting for the next showing. Some of them were really dressed up for the occasion with Hannah Montana shirts, wigs, you name it! It was cute! On the way home, I was educated even further on all things Hannah Montana, Miley Cyrus ... and the best of both worlds.
