The lyrics are a series of questions and answers surrounding the birth of Christ. There is one part of the song that goes, "What did Mary think? ... What did Mary think? ... She thought, 'Oh, how I love this baby! ... Oh, how I love this baby!'"
And then next comes the line that is repeated throughout the song: "Baby Jesus is God's Son."
Of course, Tanna questioned the theology behind a song that speculates what was going through Mary's mind after she gave birth to the Savior. But I think it's pretty safe to say that feelings of love were there, especially after all of the pondering that had been going on in her heart.
Getting back to the song ... It's the kind of song that can get stuck in your head. It's that catchy. In fact, that one line--"Oh, how I love this baby"--is one that I sing many times a week to this day as I hold and squeeze Kate.
I know it is written about Mary and Baby Jesus. Perhaps it's a way for me to relate to Mary in a different way--as a mother holding her baby. Many times, after I sing the line a few times, I'll even follow it with, "Baby Jesus is God's Son." I figure it's good for her to hear that Baby Jesus is God's Son as early as possible. Oh, how we love that Baby, too.
Oh, that was so sweet! :) That song is still a favorite in this house! You won't believe this...we actually listened to the CD last night and sang along (motions and all) before bed! :)

BLY!
Just FYI...although you might already know...but Cindy Crawford is going to be at Rooms To Go at the Mall of Georgia this Sat. When I saw it, I immediately thought of you and your "Celebrity Saturday"!
ReplyDeleteAnd I am going to do the meme you tagged me for, but I have to get John's help!
Loved this post! It made me cry - of course I am very emotional and even more emotional as a 32 week pregnant woman. I've never heard the song but the sentiment is very touching.
