Do you hear the people sing?
Say, do you hear the distant drums?
It is the future that they bring
When tomorrow comes ...

We had a great date night last night. Les Mis was fantastic, and we thoroughly enjoyed the show. Tanna's Mom and cousin (who is visiting the States from Korea) came over to watch Kate, and after some minor drama concerning lost tickets, we were on our way. What's a date night without a little drama anyway, right? LOL! We were laughing about it in the car on the way to the restaurant.
We met Jennifer and Daniel for dinner at The Globe, and we ate outside. The weather was perfect. I had the chicken, of course, and Tanna started his meal with these scallops:
After dinner, we walked to the theatre and re-enacted a photo from five years ago.
The show was great, and for the most part we liked the set changes. One thing I didn't care for, however, was people eating popcorn during the show. The smell alone seemed so strange at the theatre. I felt like I was at a discount-store snack bar or at a ballgame. And then our view of my favorite solo (Eponine's "On My Own") was interrupted by a couple who were late returning from intermission with armfuls of concessions. Maybe it's just me, but it just didn't seem appropriate to be munching away on popcorn and slurping up soda during the show. I guess I am old-fashioned that way.
But that is a very minor observation about a wonderful night out. It was the first time Jennifer and Daniel had seen the musical production. As Jennifer pointed out, the Gospel is presented so clearly in the story. It's just another reason Tanna and I love Les Mis so much.
I totally agree with you about the theatre - the smell, the noise...
ReplyDeleteThere used to such a custom to going to the theatre that I loved.
U guys r still looking fab after 5 years. Sounds like a fun night.
ReplyDeleteThat is too bad about the popcorn...I don't know what some people are thinking! I love Le Miz, I was always in tears when they sang to love another person is to see the face of God.
ReplyDeleteWe're going in a couple of weeks to see "Wicked." I'm taking Rebecca and my brother is going with us. That's strange about the popcorn.
