Here's a little tip I learned last year on GymboFriends, and it looks like we are going to be putting it to use this Fall!
The tip is this: Moms of girls, you can use dresses and/or jumpers twice--as a dress one season ... and then as a top later (as in ... the following year or so). I guess Moms of boys can do this, too, but it might be frowned upon in some circles.
Anyway, you have to watch it on the armholes and the width through the chest area when you're using a dress in a smaller size as a top. But this works really well with sweater jumpers, and I wanted to share with you this example.
Last year, for Thanksgiving, Kate wore this Gymboree sweater dress (from the Harvest Leaves line). I actually bought it second-hand right before Thanksgiving, even though the line was still in stores at that time. (I was surprised someone wanted to sell it already--but I got a great price, so I wasn't complaining!) It is size 3-6 months. Kate wore it over her brown pants because her Mommy didn't want to fool with tights, and we didn't have any leggings to match.
Look how cute she looked in the sweater jumper last year:
So happy to be celebrating her first Thanksgiving!
Earlier today, I decided to get out some of Kate's clothes that I had packed away for Fall. Here's the same sweater jumper (size 3-6 months, mind you) today:
Fits great as a top! We actually have this same sweater jumper in size 18-24 that we could use as a dress, too. Then we can use it as a tunic later on!
The jeans are a little on the short side--they are size 12 months and actually still have the tags on (so never been washed). That's OK, though, because I have the same jeans in the next size up--they were on clearance at Target a while back for only $1.74, so I bought a pair in just about every size. I LOVE baby jeans!
Enjoy getting more wear out of your dresses/jumpers!
Brilliant!! Thanks Karen! I'll be digging through some old rubbermaids this weekend. Hope you guys are having a great week!
ReplyDeleteGreat tip. Most of Hannah Anderson dresses are designed to be converted to tops. So check them out too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! I have one of these for Abigail to use as a tunic! I can't wait to see it on her seeing how adorable it is one Kate! :) I love it!!
ReplyDeletebly!
I absolutely love that outfit - I almost like it better as a top..that is adorable. I wish I had an outfit like that...it's so cute.
ReplyDeleteCUTE! I actually never thought of that...now I feel like I need to dig out the little clothes again and see what we have!
ReplyDeleteFantastic idea! I love how adorable she looks!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe she can fit in that 3-6 month dress as a top!! Its VERY cute!!
ReplyDeleteI have one for Aili for the fall too! Except hers is a 3T, so she won't wear it for a tunic till at least next year. It is quite large on her still, but still looks cute!! And Kate looks like a little doll!
