Kate's Shoe Boxes for Operation Christmas Child

Hi, Everyone! There are only a few days left of Operation Christmas Child National Collection Week--have you filled your shoe boxes yet? Kate is wondering--hahaha! National Collection Week ends Monday, Nov. 24, but I will let you in on a little secret. Well, it's not really a secret--I just wanted to say that. Consider it a tip.

Anyway, here you go: If you live in a city that has an OCC processing center (such as ATLANTA), then you actually have a little longer to get your boxes completed and turned in. And if you live near Boone, North Carolina (where Samaritan's Purse's international headquarters is located), then you can turn in a shoe box any time you are good and ready ... because gift-filled boxes are collected there all year long. YAY!

Sooooo ... Kate and I worked some more on our boxes today, and I think we are just about ready to drop them off. We may try to take them to a nearby collection site tomorrow. But we do like to visit the Atlanta-area warehouse (processing center) at least once a year, so we will likely do that after Thanksgiving. Who knows--maybe we will have some more things to drop off then? :o) In case you were wondering, the ATL PC will likely be collecting boxes through December 8th or so. (That date isn't written in stone, by the way.) This year, the warehouse is located at: 3780 Southside Industrial Court, Suite A, Atlanta, Georgia, 30354. (The location changes every year because the goal is to get donated or discounted space--and it's usually up in the air as to what will be available when, etc.)

So there you have it. Here is a little trip down memory lane. When I was taking photos of Kate with the shoe boxes today, I was remembering our photo shoot from last year. Look how much she has grown!

"How can I get in this box? Hmmmmmmm ..."

And speaking of getting into boxes, I wanted to write about this box in particular. We try to do at least a few boxes for boys in the 10-14 age category. (OCC receives the least amount of boxes for that category, so there is always a need.) Anyway, here is one of our boy 10-14 shoe boxes for this year. I admit that it is a hard group to buy for (for me, at least). Anyway, in this box I included a water bottle filled with candy. For some reason, Kate was OBSESSED with this candy-filled water bottle and tried to get into this box to dig that water bottle out every chance she could! She was persistent, to say the least! Anyway, I finally moved it and/or stacked other boxes on top of it, and she was not happy about it. And then later, she even remembered and tried to get it out again. Crazy girl!

Happy Shoe Boxes!

  1. Good for you, getting the boxes done early! I have 4 ready to go and one more to make this weekend.

I can't believe how much Kate has changed in one year. My dad told me the other day about a fact he heard on tv: If people continued to grow as much as they do in their first year of life, by the time they reached 20 years, they'd be as big as a commercial airplane!

  2. Way to go on all those boxes. Also wanted to add that if you go to their website you can sponser a box. If you don't have time to make a bos you can sponser one and I think that is important too! We did our boxes for the Girl Scouts this year. It is good to know what they are inneed of so next year I may try to persuade the G.S to focus on the boys 10-14 age group. Thanks Karen for all your wisdom! :)
