Yesterday morning, Kate and I took our Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes to a nearby collection site. It was a beautiful day--just really cold and windy.
The drop-off site we visited was at First Baptist Atlanta--you know, Charles Stanley's church. Tanna and I have worshiped there a few times over the years, and we always enjoy the service. Two really nice ladies helped us unload the car, and then one of them snapped our photo.
Before we left, we finished up our gifts by writing a letter and putting a copy of it--along with a family photo--in each of our boxes. I have seen and heard with my own eyes and ears that many children love receiving the personal letters and photos--and some say that is their favorite thing in the whole box. Can you imagine this coming from children who may have never received a gift in their life--and then they receive a box full of toys and say that a letter and photo from a stranger is their favorite thing?
Kate was wearing her Mrs. Claus outfit. I bought a couple of these just a week or two before she was born. We were at Babies R Us with some friends, and they had some Christmas stuff out and marked waaaaaaay down. This outfit was marked at $3, and there was an extra 20 percent or so off of that. AND ... on top of that ... I had a coupon for even more off. You can do the math--it was next to nothing. I bought one for Anna-Claire as well--she wore hers last year. Anyway, I thought it was appropriate for Kate to dress like Mrs. Claus as she delivered her gifts. haha!
Along the way, we noticed that gas prices had dropped even lower! I gassed up the car for only $1.78 a gallon! This is pretty remarkable considering that just a couple of months ago, there were loooooong lines at the gas stations that actually had gas. And drivers were thankful to be paying $4+ a gallon--just because it meant they could get some petroleum. Isn't it crazy how quickly things can change?
OH, i am loving the cheap gas!!! I can fill up the van for $30 now rather than $60! I didn't get in on the shoebox thing this year cause i didn't know how to find who was taking them up! You will have to help me out next year.
ReplyDeleteYou do get some deals!!!!! I am loving cheap gas, while it lasts.
ReplyDeleteThe boxes look great! We did that at our local MOPS group. Our gas isn't as cheap as yours, but it is under $2 a gallon at most places. I was able to fill up my mini van for $48 last time, it was a great feeling.
