Hitting the High! (High Museum of Art, that is)

Kate loved all the colors. (Nowadays, when she sees a lot of colors together, she likes to proclaim, "Colors!")

Yesterday, we took advantage of Bank of America's Museums on Us promotion and hit the High! (BOA customers can get in free to several museums and other attractions the first weekend of every month--check it out.) Well, truth be told, we were going to take advantage of the BOA program, but it turns out that Fulton Country residents get free admission to the High Museum of Art on the first Saturday of the month, anyway ... so we didn't even have to whip out our BOA cards--just our driver's licenses.

Tanna and Kate in the Monet exhibit--cell-phone photography was permitted.

We decided to visit the High yesterday mostly to see the Monet exhibit before it ends later this month. And see it, we did! To quote Ferris Bueller, "We saw priceless works of art!" (We did not eat pancreas, though, as the rest of the quote goes.)

It was fairly crowded (in my opinion); however, this was our first time there, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I suppose the free admission deals and the fact that it was Saturday had a lot to do with that. The museum is very nice, and we enjoyed our time there. It was pretty remarkable to see so many beautiful works of art all in one place. But a visit probably would be more enjoyable without a toddler who wants to run around and touch everything. ha! Another downside was the expensive parking at around $10! Whatever. We paid $5 at another lot and walked a little ways. (I hate to pay for parking, by the way. Living in the city, though, makes it a part of life. Boo.) I hate to sound so ungrateful. The free admission obviously takes the sting off of the paying-to-park thing, for sure!

If you do have a young child and plan a High visit, I highly recommend the children's area. (Get it? HIGHLY? ha!) Kate had a blast playing there--from the big cushions to the blocks to the markers/art station ... she just loved it all!

Here are some more pics from our museum outing ...

Presenting ... Water Lilies

Not bad for an iPhone self-portrait. Those are pretty difficult to do on an iPhone, by the way. Good job, Tanna!

I think this was probably my favorite Monet there. I would get a different frame, though. I'm not real big on the gold. (I'm sure my opinion really counts for something when it comes to such priceless art--ha!)

We went upstairs, where it wasn't as crowded. So we let Kate out of the stroller. She was dying to get out and walk.

I really enjoyed looking at a lot of the pieces--maybe we can go back one day when we can look a little longer.

Then he said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wants to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for me will save it. What good is it for a man to gain the whole world, and yet lose or forfeit his very self? --Luke 9:23-25

Kate thoroughly enjoyed the ramp ...

... and the children's area:

This was a lot of fun! So squishy.

Loving the block station!

Of course, you know Kate *loved* drawing with the markers. Who is that hot guy in the background?

And from the other direction ... (Tanna took this one on his iPhone.)

Back outside ... Here, Kate is mad at me because she kept trying to climb over that rope, and I kept stopping her. And then--if you can believe this--I had the nerve to try to take her picture!

  1. I love the pic of you and Kate at the easel. We so rarely get to see the two of you together!

  2. Looks like fun! I hate paying for parking too (but not enough to take MARTA with a toddler!)!
