I am so excited about the turkey shirt I made last night! Well, I didn't actually make the shirt, you know. I bought it at Target. The turkey applique I pieced together with cutouts from some of Kate's old Gymboree leggings. I think they all are from the Harvest Leaves line, but I could be wrong on the orange ones. Still very primitive looking and a little "off," but I like it that way. (Because I am a little "off" myself--LOL!) I just freehanded this one. I stayed up late to finish it, and ended up breaking a needle in two! I bet you didn't know I was so strong, huh? I would have Kate model it, but she is napping right now. Just wanted to share--gobble, gobble!

that is the cutest shirt every Karen! I'm very impressed! You should start a business. If you make a boy turkey shirt, we'd buy it!
ReplyDeleteKaren! I love this shirt! Maybe I will make a couple for the twins first Thanksgiving! Can you give me a quick How-To?!?!?
ReplyDeleteYou are so talented Karen! You need to find some cute boyish patterns for me to make for Finn :)
ReplyDeleteI am making one for myself...can I have a picture with Kate when I finish it?
ReplyDeleteLove it! It is so cute!!
ReplyDeleteKaren, that is tdf!!! I am stealing your idea and making one for Aili, if you don't mind ;o) I've been hunting for fabric scraps for the owl first.
ReplyDeleteI love it, I love it, I love it! :) You are so good at this! This is adorable! Gobble! Gobble! My sister has our grandmother's sewing machine-wonder if I could whip one of these babies up?? I can't sew (Johnny sews our buttons in this house) but maybe I could figure it out on the machine? Hmm. We must have a turkey shirt! :) Love the use of the gymbo leggings!
ReplyDeletebly!
You are getting so crafty...now the question is...would you cut up a hanna? :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is adorable!
ReplyDeleteTHat is adorable! Very cute! I see some major Thanksgiving photo shoots on the horizon! Now do tell....how did you break a needle when sewing by hand? BLY cindy
ReplyDeleteAwww, thanks, guys! I really don't know what I am doing ... just winging it--LOL! (pun intended)
ReplyDeleteJen, check out http://lilblueboo.blogspot.com/2009/04/applique-tutorial.html
Her applique tutorial is really great. I didn't see this until after I had finished the owl shirt, but it looks like very helpful information. Of course, I didn't follow all of the steps, but just kind of went with it and used what I had. :o)
You know what--the owl and turkey can be total boy shirts with different materials/shirts. Just take the pattern and make it your own.
Bethany--a photo is a MUST!
Joanna, of course I don't mind! Be sure to post pics!
Anne, I want to see Johnny make one of these ... LOL!
Julie, Hanna would be a true test!
Cindy, It was late. I had very thick thread, and was trying to run it through a few layers of material. I had to really work it and had an Incredible Hulk moment, I guess. LOL!
Insert sad Hulk music here as he walks away ...
