Out like a lamb

What a month!

When March roared in, we hadn't even lived here 48 hours. And March really did come in like a lion--it snowed (again) on March 2. I remember because we got the carpets cleaned that day, and I was afraid we'd have to reschedule due to the weather. (I should have taken a picture, but I didn't.) Today, as the month came to a close, the weather was gorgeous. I snapped the above photo of one of the trees next to our house this afternoon. They look so pretty.

In the last month, I have been sick twice. (I have been sick again this week and am finally starting to get over this cold.) Kate and I spent about a week in Tennessee (still need to blog about that). We had lots of fun family adventures with Tanna's family while his brother and company were in town. We sprang forward. Bought new furniture. Discovered we had ants and roof rats (GROSS! More to come on this!). Numerous and various people have been here--from the cable guy to a locksmith to the carpet cleaner to delivery folks, you name it. Many boxes have been unpacked--and we have many more to go. Oh, and the best part about March 2010? We received our referral for our baby boy! We are so thankful.

What a month it's been! I'm exhausted ... but looking forward to April. Bring it on!

Governor's Mansion Egg Hunt, 2010 Edition

This was our second year attending the Easter egg hunt at the governor's mansion. I suppose this will be the last year the event is hosted by First Lady Mary Perdue, as this is Gov. Perdue's last year in office. (I wonder ... if we had a female governor, would her husband would assume hosting duties?) The First Lady has done a wonderful job of offering fantastic holiday events for families to attend at the mansion.

Anyway, the event is fun and free, and I highly recommend it. Space is limited, and you have to sign up/RSVP in advance. After this year, my name may or may not be on some "watch list" due to my calling the governor's mansion a few times to inquire about sign-ups. LOL! Let me explain. See, we moved around the time I figured they would start taking reservations, so I called a few times because I was afraid I'd miss it. Fortunately, they took down my contact information and e-mailed me when the reservations were open. Yay!

The big event happened to take place the weekend Kylie and Eric were going to be here--which made our morning even more fun. :o) I took plenty of photos, so as not to disappoint you. Here are some of them ...

Just arriving--it was pretty cold when we first got there.

This year, participants were asked to donate clothing, diapers or gift cards for promise686, a non-profit that assists foster families and children.

The kids in front of the lawn of eggs--see the eggs? This year, the egg hunt was off on a side lawn; last year, the eggs were "hidden" in the mansion's front yard.

While we waited for the egg hunt to begin, we saw some friends. Here is Samantha with her parents. See the Easter Bunny in the background?

William was there with his Mommy and Daddy, too.

It's quite a challenge to get a picture of three 2-year-olds--this one is actually not too bad, as you can see most of their faces. I'd call it a success!

Soon, it was time to gather some eggs. Kate put all of hers in one basket. There was a five- or six-egg limit, after all. This has got to be easier than getting eggs from the chicken house.

Not too bad, girl! The hunt was sectioned off into two categories--one for younger children and one for older kids. Kylie and Eric were in the older group with Halmoni.

Post-hunt shot

After gathering eggs, we saw the Easter Bunny!

Kate didn't cry!

The kids checking out their loot. (This one kind of reminds me of post-trick-or-treating. hahaha)

We saw more friends--here are Caleb and his Mommy, Sheena.

A post-hunt pic with Sam and Lee Anne. Notice Eric eating his cupcake (or something) in the background. ha!

Speaking of cupcakes ... In addition to the egg hunt, there are all kinds of fun activities, including cupcake decorating ...

face-painting ...

egg-decorating ...

bounce-house jumping ...

egg-rolling ... and more!

Eric got a lightsaber balloon and engaged in some friendly competition with other boys there.

Some bunny looks so cute!

It may have been chilly at first, but the weather turned out to be just beautiful!

Family pic

Time to go ... Here are Halmoni, Kylie and Eric in front of the governor's mansion. Thank you, Mrs. Perdue, for a lovely time and a first-class family event. Oh yeah, the kids saw Mrs. Perdue and thanked her in person. (Sorry, I didn't get a photo--I must have been slacking on the job.) :o)

HAPPY EASTER!

St. Regis

Saturday evening, after the kids were in bed, my MIL came over to stay with them while Tanna and I met some friends and family at the St. Regis for drinks. I had a Coke (my favorite beverage, of course), while the others enjoyed some wine. Here are a few photos--the St. Regis is just gorgeous!

As we were leaving, a Rolls-Royce pulled up, delivering a bride and groom. They were a handsome couple, and I wished them congratulations. The Rolls looked nice, especially parked next to a certain Civic. You know the one.

We were going to stop for some milk at Kroger on the way home--it was on sale--but we just missed the midnight cutoff. It was a few minutes after as we drove by. Maybe next time! LOL!

Crawfish Boil

Tradition dictates that Tanna do a crawfish boil when his brother's family visits each year. Tanna is a Tulane graduate, so he is a big fan of New Orleans/Cajun cuisine. And he is an excellent cook. While I don't eat the crawfish, I do enjoy the corn and potatoes. The crawfish boil usually turns into somewhat of an event, and an enjoyable one at that! We hope to have another one very soon as a thank-you to those who helped us move.

Crawfish in a bucket

Look, Mom! Bare hands! ... Oh yeah, Mike cut Kylie's hair that afternoon--looks so cute!

Kate called the crawfish "spiders" at first. LOL!

The kids love the crawfish, which Tanna orders from somewhere in Louisiana.

Kylie has a heart for creatures of all kinds. (Doesn't stop her from eating them, though. ;o))

Darlene helps Tanna get the grub inside without making too much of a mess.

Don't you love the fake smile? ;o) Tanna is over the photos at this point. LOL!

Time to eat!

Dude! Ranch! (The Yellow River Game Ranch, that is)

When you keep going back to the same places, it can be challenging to come up with new blog titles for each visit. :o)

Case in point: The Yellow River Game Ranch. We went there last week with the California company. They'd meant to go on their last trip here, but it didn't work out due to weather or (obviously) some other reason. But this time, the weather and schedules cooperated, and we had a great visit!

Yes, deer.

Kylie and Eric with their bags of food

Remember the granola from Craft? Well, the animals just loved it! They were eating high on the hog that day. hahaha

Kate feeding a bunny--I think she is trying to feed it granola one tiny piece at a time.

Bears!

Yes, the animals really do eat right out of your hands!

Oh, give me a home ...

Pearls before swine

Kate tormenting some type of fowl ... "Come here, Rooster! Do you want some corn?" I think I heard her say.

Eric feeds a rabbit.

Another bunny

Guess the bunnies were popular with us that day--or I just happened to pick a bunch of bunny pictures to post. Perhaps it's because Easter is upon us.

Outside the groundhog's house

We didn't see him--maybe next time, though!
