Dinner @ Craft

While I have come a long way over the last several years, I am still what you would call a picky eater. Also, I have very simple tastes when it comes to food. I am just as happy to go to Cracker Barrel or Chick-fil-A as I am a fancy restaurant. Seriously. Actually, in some cases I am HAPPIER to eat at the Crack or the Chick because I know I will find something I really like to eat that won't break the bank. And I won't feel guilted into eating something I don't like because it cost as much as my shirt. But that's just me.

Another thing about me: I eat more out of necessity than for pleasure (except when it comes to chocolate). My husband, on the other hand, enjoys foods of all kinds. He enjoys eating food, preparing it, talking about it, watching television shows about it, etc. Sometimes I feel bad because I do not share his passion for fine dining. And when we go out to eat, I feel like he has fewer restaurants to choose from because of me. The same goes for his family, as they have much more diverse palates than I do.

So when the DH said we were going out to dinner with Mike and Darlene last week, I was prepared to not like the overpriced, fancy-restaurant food. But last week, when we went to Craft, I was pleasantly surprised. This is a restaurant that can please sophisticated palates as well as those that are more, shall we say, practical.

I ordered the Roasted Farm Chicken and the Yukon Gold Purée (potatoes). Can I just say ... YUM! The chicken was deeee-lish! Now, I have had me some chicken. It's what I order when I eat out. Yes, it is usually one of the least-expensive options on the menu, but it is genuinely what I usually prefer. And I do prefer Craft's Roasted Farm Chicken. But that is nothing compared to the Yukon Gold Purée. When our server brought out this potato dish, he sat it right next to me and told me that he did so because I wasn't going to want to share. He was right (but I did share just a little). Later on, I asked him if it was OK for me to lick the bowl. I might have, too, if it wouldn't have embarrassed my party. These potatoes were that good, people. Don't just take my word for it. Go there and order them for yourself.

Overall, it was a great dinner out--I actually left full and satisfied, and the service was excellent. Yes, I have simple tastes it comes to food. But restaurants like Craft may, perhaps, start to gradually change me. Or maybe it is just a nice dining establishment that has something for everyone.

We got there a bit early for dinner, but the place filled up fast.

Ready to eat!

Enjoying the Yukon Gold Purée--maybe a little too much.

Parting gifts--we received these little packets of granola, which came in handy the following day.

A special thanks to Diana (Jamie's Mom), who watched Kate for us while we went out to eat. Kate had a blast at Jamie's house, as usual!
