In case you didn't know, Truett Cathy is the founder of one of the greatest restaurant chains ever--Chick-fil-A, which happens to be headquartered in the metro-Atlanta area! I admire Truett Cathy for his Christian principles and business practices, among many things. Check out this great interview with him that was featured in Decision magazine a few years back.
I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Cathy in 2004. Actually, it was at the same CBA convention where I met Chuck Norris! (There's just no telling who you might run into at those events!) Mr. Cathy wasn't actually AT the convention, but he was at the Chick-fil-A in the nearby CNN Center. Some fellow SP employees and I were taking a dinner break between daytime and evening events, and we ventured over the the food court there in the CNN building. As I remember it, I think Paige and I were just hanging out at a table, and Jamey gets my attention from across the way. He's looking excited and pointing and such--because Truett Cathy is over at CFA, getting ready to autograph books and greet guests!
Well, anyone who knows me knows how much I LOVE Chick-fil-A. And yes ... I do mean LOVE. I probably eat there ... on average ... a minimum of twice a week. No kidding. When I worked full-time, it was more. Sometimes I'd eat there twice a day--breakfast and lunch. I suppose there are times I've eaten there three times in one day. I wouldn't be surprised. I'll have to do another post just about CFA and the restaurant's outstanding products.
Getting back to the story ...
So there is Truett Cathy, founder of Chick-fil-A, right there in the CNN Center before our very eyes. I was very excited. I guess the event was part of the convention ... because ... as CBA attendees, we were able to get a book and get it signed. Mr. Cathy was very nice. I remember that he touched my face in a very sweet way. That probably sounds weird, but it totally wasn't. Another thing I remember is that Mr. Cathy also was visiting with the CFA employees who were there, and it looked like the manager was making sure that everyone got to meet him--what a sweet gesture, I thought. It was a fun surprise to meet Truett Cathy that evening, and I am thankful to have had the opportunity to do so. I had seen him once before at a Catalyst event, but I'd never been able to actually speak to him before. Later, I ended up working with someone who was related to the Cathy family by marriage.
P.S. Whooooo-boy! Looks like somebody needs some new brown shoes--or at the very least, a good polish!
