Embryo Adoption

Many of you may know my friend Kristi, fellow ETSU alum (go BUCS!) and a writer for the Knoxville News Sentinel. For over a year, Kristi has been following a couple as they have gone through the process of embryo adoption. The couple's twins were born earlier this year--they came a bit early, but they are home now and are doing well.

Anyway, check out the story she wrote--she did a FANTASTIC job with it--I am so proud of her and all the hard work she put into it. She's a gifted writer.

And when you're finished reading that one, be sure to to read this one, too.

Embryo adoption is one of those things with which I wasn't familiar ... and then I all of a sudden heard about it from at least three different places--and maybe more.

Tanna is a member of the Christian Medical and Dental Associations--which, incidentally, is headquartered in Bristol, Tennessee, just a hop, skip and a jump from where I grew up (beautiful Piney Flats). Well, the CMDA regularly sends its members these audio CDs which feature interviews and updates on various topics on the faith and in the field of medicine. A while back, one of those CDs included a segment about embryo adoption--and I happened to be listening in when Tanna played it. Very interesting, I thought.

Then ... Kristi started sharing with me bits and pieces about this couple she was following and the story she was working on. It sounded very, very cool. I enjoyed hearing the updates as the weeks and months went by.

Also, last year some time, embryo adoption came up again ... in conversation with some other friends of ours. Earlier this year, said friends announced they were expecting--via embryo adoption! We are so thrilled for them! So thrilled!

Embryo adoption may not be for everyone, but it is an avenue to explore. Sadly, many embryos are destroyed each year ... when they could be beautiful babies, making dreams come true for many wonderful couples.

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother's womb. --Psalm 139:13
