Rainy-Day Worship

As Kate and I pulled out of the garage this morning, the rain started. Its intensity increased as we made our way to church. I seriously considered driving on through the full parking lot and getting a head start on my errands. After all, the crowds at Target and Publix this time of a Sunday morning are quite sparse. Plus, Tanna was working today, and trudging through the rain in a dress--while trying not to get the baby wet--did not sound like fun to me. Even after I found a spot in the back of the parking lot, I thought about not going in.

I quickly realized ... shame on me.

Shame. On. Me.

There are Christians across the globe who literally risk their lives for the opportunity to worship the Lord.

RISK. THEIR. LIVES.

And here I am, in a country rich in freedom and material blessings, being grumpy about a little rain--and much-needed rain, at that!

Sunday school was good, and today's worship service was fine. But the Lord taught me the most powerful lesson in the parking lot.

_____

I was glad when they said unto me,
"Let us go into the house of the LORD."

Psalm 122:1

  1. You are so right about how easy we have it and how we make excuses to miss on Sundays where people in other countries walk for hours to attend a worship service. Don't feel bad, think of those who didn't even make it to their cars....let alone the parking lot.

  3. Karen. Agree that we sometime takes thing for granted. It's so easy to loose sight of what we have and what's a necessity. I'm guilty of this. Thanks for the reminder.
