Kate's First Haircut

Kate got her first professional haircut on Monday! I think I mentioned previously that Tanna took a quick snip at her bangs a few weeks ago, but he didn't cut very much at all (I think due to my protests). I had been wanting to take Kate to one of the cute hair places just for kids. Tanna said no--too expensive. Well, he finally came around after a while. He said I could take her for her first haircut--but after that, he was going to cut it! LOL!

I think it helped that I happened to find a $5 off coupon for Snip-its--and there is one pretty close to where we live. I checked out the Snip-its Web site, and a special package for baby's first haircut--complete with a certificate, lock of hair and a photo--is offered. (Although we didn't get the photo--perhaps because I was already taking so many myself?) Anyway, I made an appointment, and we were set.

We got there, got signed in, and went straight back. Kate's haircut lady was Anne, and she seemed nice and kind of quiet. She turned on a video, which Kate was not interested in AT ALL. Anne attempted to put a cape on Kate, but Kate wasn't into that, either. She also offered her a few small toys to hold, and those helped. I tried to keep Kate occupied as much as possible. What seemed to work best was our little nibble game. I was crouched down beneath Kate, pretending to eat her fingers. She loves that little game and laughs so much when we play it.

The whole procedure didn't last too long. Anne said in the future to keep trimming the back of Kate's hair and to leave the sides alone until they catch up with the back. She put a cute ponytail on the top of Kate's head and added a few hair jewels. Surprisingly, they stayed in for at least an hour or two!

When Tanna got home, he thought she looked so cute--more like a little girl and less like a baby. Her bangs are a little blunt/too straight across--but they'll grow. Of course, we think she'd be adorable no matter what ... even bald or with Cousin Itt hair. LOL!

  2. LOVE the pony tail! Too cute! Sam's first haircut was also at a Snip Its, but he cried and cried the whole way through. I have very sad (but cute) photos of him with big crocodile tears running down his face.

  3. Congrats on the first hair cut, Kate looks so cute! We went to Snipits too, Ricky screamed the whole time. The pics I have from that day are miserable. At least Kate fared better.

  8. Great review. I'll make sure to take Snip it when it's time for William's first haircut...which is long over due. I probably need to take him this weekend.

  9. Wow, how cute! I hadn't even thought of getting my almost one year old (just one more week) a haircut. Hope I can find somewhere that nice.
Off topic, but why is you blog background now white? I loved it in black :)

  10. Thanks, everyone!

Chloe's Mommy--I changed the colors b/c I was afraid it was hard to read for some people. I really liked the black, too, but this is all right. :o) Thanks for noticing!
