OK, so I saw these Elmo tomato plant kits (among other varieties) several months ago at Lowe's. I thought they looked cute, but I didn't buy any at the time. I later read on Sheena's blog what a success they were with her cute little boy, Caleb. And when Grammy was staying with us, I thought it would be a fun project for them to do together. Grammy grew up on a farm and used to have her own tomato plants each year, so this was right up her alley. Tanna picked up a kit when he went to Lowe's one day, so we were all set.
I dressed Kate in one of her Elmo outfits (cute hand-me-downs from Riley), and set everything up on the dining-room table.
Let's see here ...
Aprons are on. Dirt is in. We are ready to plant some seeds!
The seeds sure are tiny--kind of hard to pick up.
Let's get some more.
All done! Let's see what happens ...
Fast forward a while. Definitely a week, maybe more. Nothing. Even the dirt was looking rough. So I redid them. Not much better. Several days later, I redid them again. We finally started to get some activity.
Here they are earlier this week--this is at least three weeks after the original planting project.
Yes, Kate is wearing her other Elmo outfit for the occasion. I forgot her Elmo hair clips, though. There goes my "Mother of the Year" award ...
Hear ye, hear ye ... Elmo tomato plants can be fun--but don't depend on them for your dinner.
It's hard to grow them from seed in your yard! A for effort! You can always buy some established plants and put them in and Kate will never know! :)
ReplyDeleteGREAT job!! Love Kate's outfits...hopefully something will sprout soon! I'm STILL holding out hope! So glad you did this!
