I survived my first Peachtree Road Race--but not without some ibuprofen. LOL! Despite only walking the 10K on Sunday, I am still sore today (though I haven't had any drugs since yesterday, so that is a plus--right?). Anyway, I walked it with my brother and sister, and it was tons of fun--even if I didn't get a shirt. I messed up with registration and apparently didn't register enough of our peeps, so--after realizing this at the last minute--I decided to walk it without a number. I figured it was more important for my out-of-towner siblings to have numbers--because who knows if they'll be in town on the Fourth again to participate, KWIM? (Although ... I hope they'll be back so we can beat our time--which shouldn't be too hard to do since we stopped so much to take photos, use the restroom, get some freebies, drink water, etc., etc.) Whether participating as a runner or walker ... or as a cheerleader on the sidelines (which I have enjoyed in years past), the Peachtree Road Race is a blast--and such an awesome Atlanta tradition.
Up and at 'em! Here's Tanna just before we left. He had a much earlier start time than we did, so I dropped him off @ the Peachtree/Peachtree-Dunwoody blockade. He'd been training a bit--even though he doesn't really care for running that much--and reached his goal of finishing in less than an hour. Way to go, Tanna!
Here I am with Robin and Johnny, waiting to start. Thanks to BIL Steven who dropped us off at the blockade--and picked us all up after the race was over. And also to SIL Anne who helped Steven (and Grammy) watch the girls while we were gone all morning. :o)
Completely random encounter--I ran into Ginny, a gal who was my part-time roommate when I lived in Tennessee. She had to come to the Knoxville area to do some rotations and needed a place to stay. Long story short ... she met Tanna briefly at a Christian medical conference or meeting or something, and he put us in contact with each other. She would stay with me for a few days a week (or something like that) when she was in town. This was, like, 10 years ago or so. I think she went to Vanderbilt at the time? Anyway, she was from the metro-Atlanta area, and I have often wondered what happened to her after we lost touch. Turns out ... she and her DH live in the ATL area and are the proud parents of beautiful triplets. It was great to see her and to reconnect.
Aren't you glad you use Dial?
God bless America
Heading south on 141 ...
Getting closer ...
And we're off!
On our way ...
Team America! I know the official rules say no costumes, but I love seeing all the people dressed up.
More Team America!
Somebody's thirsty.
Love this. He is sprinkling Holy Water on the runners.
You know we had to stop and see the cow.
Johnny and Robin with the firecow. CFA was giving out free sandwich coupons, too. They had a great display!
Way to go, Uncle Grady! (Check out his shirt!)
YAY! Almost there!
Here we are with the giant peach. Where's Tanna? Good question. ;o) He finished a long time before we did--his start time was way before ours, and he ran while we walked. We had a bit of drama at the end because it took us forever to find each other. Just a little miscommunication. The worst part is ... we missed out on the free ice cream because by the time we made it over there (after we found each other), it was all gone. :o( And I really wanted some of that ice cream! LOL!
Kudos to Publix for all the great food for the runners! Thanks for a great event, Atlanta Track Club. Hope to be there again next year--we'll see!
Great job and LOVE all the fun photos!
