Fall Fun

Kate loved sitting on this bench just up the street from the Blabla store.

One great thing about this time of year is the abundance of fun activities for kids--you know, the fall festivals, pumpkin patches, costume parties and the like. We had a full day of fall fun yesterday.

Just before lunch, we met Chip, Luann and Trey at a nearby church's fall festival. It was fantastic! Activities included pumpkin painting, pony rides, and inflatable bounce-house bouncing. LOL! There also was a small consignment sale as well as a raffle prizes and lots of food. We weren't there very long (I'd say less than an hour), and Kate and I won with both of our raffle tickets! I told Chip and Luann I should go play the lottery. ha! What a great event and a wonderful community outreach for the church.

Kate's first pony ride!

On the short drive home from the church fall festival, Kate fell asleep. So I circled around at the end of our street and kept on driving so she would sleep a little longer. I drove over to the Blabla store in Virginia Highlands. Yesterday was Blabla's Halloween party, so I thought we'd stop on by. Tanna was working yesterday, but he was finished in time to meet us over there. Kate had fun destroying the store--I think I got everything back in its place--and we grown-ups enjoyed a hot dog or two. I bought Kate some finger puppets, and she got a little jack-o-lantern painted on her hand. Surprisingly, she sat pretty still for the experience! There were more activities, but they were for kids a bit older than Kate. If you haven't been by Blabla, definitely check out the store. Not only is the merchandise such fun eye candy, but also the window displays are delightful! Oh, and speaking of ... check out the new Blabla blog when you get a chance.

Last night, our Sunday school class had its Halloween party--complete with an '80s theme. You should have seen some of the costumes--what a hoot! We're talking mullet wigs, long black leather jackets, fishnet gloves, Members Only jackets--the works!

Tanna was hoping to wear a Members Only jacket, too. He went to his parents' house looking for one he was pretty sure his Mom was still wearing up until recently. He couldn't find it, but he did find a very lovely Reebok jogging suit. Kate and I wore skeleton shirts, and I tried to '80s my outfit up with a jean jacket (collar up, of course!), big hoop earrings (which I wear from time to time), and some teased hair. I had fake eyelashes, too, and they seemed to be a hit! Who knew?

Here's our family pic:

And the two skeletons:

Kate's outfit is actually a set of boy's PJs from Gymboree. The bones glow in the dark, too! The nice thing about this costume is that we didn't have to change her outfit before putting her to bed. haha! I don't know if you can tell in the photo, but the little heart on my shirt has a flickering light. I got the shirt at Wal-Mart several weeks ago, but I didn't try it on until Friday night. The little light lands right on my left nipple. Very classy! (Did I just use the word "nipple" on my blog?)

Happy Fall, Y'all! More fun activities are planned this week, so stay tuned!

  1. We had an 80's day at work a few years back. Michelle had the best costume by far - she did the jean jacket and the teased hair, just like you, but she added three or four Swatch watches to the ensemble. Good times.

  7. Where do I begin? :) Love the pony ride pics-she wasn't a bit apprehensive on that horse! Way to go, Kate! The BlaBla store looked like so much fun-the little blabla owl is adorable. Now, to the good stuff-Tanna's jump suit is hysterical and I had no idea your hair would do such things-did you have a little help from Aqua Net? :)
