Family Night: Pumpkins

Last week was our first attempt at a family night. If you are unfamiliar with the concept, then you absolutely MUST check out Whittaker Woman's blog. She is the queen of family nights! I can't wait for her to be featured on television or in a national magazine--or even, as someone else recently mentioned, in her own book ... because of her family nights. Seriously--check out her blog.

Our pumpkin-themed family night came together at the last minute after we decided to meet at the pumpkin patch after Tanna was finished with work. Kate wore her pumpkin sweater and hat, and she loved running around the patch and picking her own pumpkin.

When we got home, she had some harvest vegetable baby food as part of her dinner. I would have made a pumpkin pie--but, well, I don't really like pumpkin pie.

She wore her pumpkin pajamas and watched a little bit of "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" before bed. (She finished watching the rest of the show the next day--she is LOVING this DVD!) Also before bed, we read the book Pumpkin Hill to her (well, as much as she would tolerate--it is a little advanced for her attention span).

I bought some Reese's peanut butter pumpkins for Kate's parents. Yum!

For an activity, "we" (meaning "I") worked on these cute little jack-o-lantern photo albums. I bought them last year on clearance. I had some Halloween/Fall-themed photos printed to put inside, like this one from last Oct. 31:

Kate is still a bit young to really get the whole family night thing--but I love it. I don't know that we will do these regularly until she is older, but this was a lot of fun. Plus, we had a lot of the pumpkin items already on hand, so it was pretty easy to put together--especially at the last minute. Thanks, Heather, for sharing all of your fabulous family nights!

  1. Love you buying Reece's for Kate's parent. The shaped ones taste better.

  2. too cute. sounds like fun, i just don't know how in the world we could ever find the time to execute it like she does. great and worthwhile concept though! Makes me feel inadequate.
