'The Pierce House'
(Check out the dogs!)
I realized we'd gotten a turn wrong or something, but after a prayer on Tanna's part that we'd find the place ... we did! I was almost positive that we were at the right place, but I needed to walk around to the waterfront to be sure. There were two men working in the driveway area. One was cutting some wood, I think, and another was working some big ol' piece of machinery. Looked like he was moving some dirt around. I don't know.
Anyway, I got out of the car to ask them if I could look around. But then I realized they didn't live there. That's when a nice man came out of the house and asked if he could help me. I told him my name and where I was from--he had to ask me again where I was from. Maybe it was my accent? ;o) I told him that I was pretty sure this was my grandparents' former home, and then he asked me the name. I told him, "Pierce." And he said, "Ayuh, this is the Pierce house."
He said I was welcome to walk around and take some photos, so Kate and Tanna joined me. I am so glad we found the house and that the man (I didn't catch his name) was so friendly.
View from the other side. See that stone wall? My great-grandfather built that wall when he was in his 80s.
I wanted to get a pic of Kate here, of course.
And a pic with the house in the background.
So pretty--and rich in family history!
I can just imagine how many feet have climbed these stone steps. Oh, the stories they could tell!
Oh what memories! I'm so glad you all preservered and found it! The amazing view, beautiful house, stone steps down to the dock......Are there still cabins down the hill? BLY!
ReplyDeleteWonderfull that you found Home, Don't I ever miss it, everything is the same , only better..the gray siding is the same we have here. Dad put white siding on it the first go around...
ReplyDeleteThe steps look the same as they did when I was growing up, if you were not tired when you got there you were when you go to the top -:), But Nanny always had supper ready and we were thankfull for that..
