Test-Driving the Smart Car

This post is more than a month overdue, but I am slowly working on my long list of blogging subjects. I am great about coming up with ideas, but I lag behind in keeping up with them. Hey, if you ever need some ideas on things to blog about, I can give you some!

Anywaaaaaaay ... I test drove a Smart car back on my birthday (August 22, if you want to mark your calendars). I told Tanna that that's what I wanted to do. I don't want a Smart car--where on earth would I put Kate?--I just wanted to take one on a test drive.

Let me back up a little. I don't know if fascinated is the right word ... but for lack of a better one ... I'll just say that I have been somewhat fascinated with the Smart car since we went to Paris in 2006. Saw them everywhere. Thought they were just adorable. Had my picture made next to one. See?

BTW ... Yes, I DO realize I look like a complete dork here! ha!

Anyway, after our trip, I remember a guy at work mentioning that the Smart car was going to be coming to the U.S. YAY! I was excited! And over the next year or so, I began noticing them occasionally around Atlanta. And then the Mercedes dealership in Buckhead started selling them! I started to see them out on the road a lot more often (still not a regular thing, by any means)--and I would sometimes call Tanna just to say, "Guess what!? I am behind a Smart car." LOL! I am sure he was thrilled with those calls.

Well, I decided that I wanted to see what driving one of these cute little cars was like. I really like how compact they are--not to mention the gas efficiency. (But as a Civic driver, my car is certainly not lacking in that department.) I know a Smart car is completely unrealistic for someone with a family, but it sure was fun to drive! Just really small. There's not a lot of space for your stuff, obviously. I was thinking it'd be a good car for a college student, as long as you don't have to haul a lot of big items around.

We enjoyed our test drive--we took the convertible model. The dealership has a couple of pre-planned test-drive routes (one just on the local roads, and another that goes on the Interstate--we just went around the local roads because it was almost rush-hour time). It was neat to drive--different. Oh, and it was a little jerky. There is a term for this, but I don't remember it.

I could go on about some of the specs and general car info, but you can check it out for yourself. And honestly, it's been so long, I forget a lot of the details anyway. Sorry! I will say that people sure do look at the Smart car--it really seems to catch the eyes of other drivers! Also, the folks at the dealership were super nice, and very informative (as you would expect them to be).

Oh yeah! Funny thing! When were there, there was some scantily clad lady being photographed with the Smart car. LOL! Niiiiiice ...

  5. Sounds like a perfect city car for tooling around in. Not sure if I'd want to take it out on the highway with the 18-wheelers.
