Trunk-or-Treating

Last night, we went trunk-or-treating with Chip, Luann and Trey (and Shelby--we hope to be meeting her in just a matter of weeks!). A local church had set up trunk-or-treating stations in its parking lot. There were other activities going on, but we just stuck with the treats. And there were plenty to be had!

Kate went as a chicken--or is it a rooster? A lot of people called her a turkey. We just received this costume the other day as a hand-me-down--and I think it is so cute, whatever it is! (I want to take her to the Big Chicken in Marietta for a photo op.) We had a bit of trouble getting the hood to stay on because it is a little big. I even tried to fasten it with a hairbow, but it didn't work out too well. My sister later suggested stuffing it to get to stay--I hadn't thought of that. We'll have to give it a try. What do you think--is Stouffer's OK?

If you aren't familiar with trunk-or-treating, here's how it works. A bunch of cars line up in a parking lot or field, etc., with their open trunks facing passersby. Folks decorate their cars/trunks appropriately, and kiddos walk from trunk to trunk for treats! It's a really neat concept. I will say that I wasn't expecting so many witches, ghosts and other scary decorations for a church event. (Many churches discourage people from using those types of Halloween props and costumes.)

A few years ago, I went trunk-or-treating with my nieces at my brother and SIL's church in Tennessee. Their event was really neat and well thought-out. Each trunk or station had a Bible story theme and was decorated accordingly. At each stop, the kids heard a very brief Bible story by someone dressed up as a biblical character. They then received a copy of the story along with a treat that coincided with the theme. For example, fishy crackers might be handed out at the Jonah trunk, Kit Kats at the Daniel and the lions' den car, etc., etc. You get the idea. I thought it was a very clever and cute idea, and a wonderful outreach.

Anyway, at last night's event, everyone was very friendly, and we had a great time. The weather was perfect. Cool enough to feel like Halloween--but warm enough that we didn't need a jacket. Afterward, we went to McDonald's for Happy Meals. Another treat!

Getting ready for the big event. Trey was a lion--but he didn't keep his costume on for long. He kept unzipping it. LOL!

Once Kate realized what she was supposed to do, she was all about it!

She really enjoyed picking out the treats and putting them into her jack-o-lantern candy holder.

Although sometimes she tried to give the candy back. haha!

He'll be a big brother very soon!

Afterward, we hit McDonald's. Here's Kate trying to steal Trey's fries.

He was a gentleman and gave her some--it was so sweet!

  3. You're too funny! She's a rooster because she has a comb (the red thing on top of the beak). It's helpful having a farm boy as a husband!
