World Communion Sunday

Sunday was World Communion Sunday. Around the world, brothers and sisters in the Lord partook of the elements as they remembered the sacrifice of Christ on the cross to pay for our sins. As our pastor talked about this and about our diversity as Christians, I was thinking of the many times I have taken communion in my life. Not that I specifically remember them all, but I do remember some in detail. From using crackers and grape juice on an Indian reservation in Arizona ... to drinking from a common cup of fine wine in a major U.S. city ... to dipping bread in juice at a youth conference in Tennessee ... to being served and serving from the silver trays, trying to hold them steady and really hoping not to spill the elements.

It is fascinating to think of Christians across the globe, coming to the Lord's Table--wherever it happens to be--commemorating the death and Resurrection of our Lord and Savior. Just think of how it will be in heaven with so many cultures and generations glorifying God and enjoying Him forever!

______

While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take and eat; this is my body." Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
Matthew 26:26-28
