Marsha, Marsha, Marsha!

I have a friend named Marsha. We are very different in a lot of ways, but we are very much alike in many ways. Marsha can make me laugh by saying just one word. Our phone conversations usually start with that word: "Yeeeeesss." And then the other will say, "Well, yeeeeesss." I guess it is one of those things--you have to be there.

Marsh and I met in journalism class--newswriting, maybe?--in 1993, I think. We worked on the university paper together and have exchanged MANY a newspaper tale since then (between the two of us, we've worked for a lot of papers over the years).

Marsha is a great friend because she understands. She knows how it is. And she's dang funny, too. She will cry with you and laugh with you ... and keep all your secrets. Because that's what friends do.

Today Marsha lives clear on the other side of the country ... which is too bad because it means we don't see each other very often. I did get to see her a couple of years ago when we went to Seattle. And from time to time, she visits Tennessee. She was in our wedding back in 2004--traveled all that way, and with a baby, too! (I told you she is a great friend.)

It's Marsha's birthday today. I wish I could be there to buy her a drink or a big ol' cookie or cake. But I am there in spirit! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARSHIE!

Here are some more oldies but goodies:
