These vintage Christmas bells belonged to my Grandmother Hale (Mom's mom). What a special connection I feel to her when I hang them on our tree. I imagine her decorating their real cedar tree in their living room. (Mom used to talk about how her father would cut down a cedar tree each year for their annual decor.) I wonder exactly when and where my grandmother bought these ornaments. She probably had no idea how they would last and be used long after she celebrated her last Christmas on earth (more than 20 years ago now). Mine still have their old string, now yellowed. Each of my siblings have some of these Christmas bells as well as some other ornaments from my grandparents. What special holiday treasures!

An old photo of my Grandmother Hale with my oldest sister, Cindy. I think this photo was taken in downtown Johnson City. For some reason, I am thinking it was taken at the Johnson City Christmas Parade, but I am not sure about that. I could totally be making that up. The year was probably 1970 or 1971.
I'm so happy for you to have those bells. My mom gave me an ornament years ago that was part of a set she and dad bought their first christmas together. It was a thin blue glass bulb, and very fragile. It broke to bits one Christmas and I was heartbroken.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful reminder to have on the tree. I love how "vintage" they look, :)
