Tree-Lighting Event @ The Governor's Mansion

2007--Kate and Gov. Perdue go way back, in case you didn't know.

2009--They still keep in touch from time to time. ;o)

This was my fourth year attending the Christmas tree lighting at the governor's mansion. It is such a beautiful and fun event. I always get a little teary when "O Holy Night" is sung and the tree is lit. Such a gorgeous and meaningful song.

Kate and I enjoyed our time at the mansion, but it wasn't quite the same this year because Tanna was working. We also missed our friends the Chamberlins who have attended with us the last two years--they recently moved to the Georgia coast. But ... we did see some other friends, including Donna, Ed and William! Yay!

A new thing this year--Santa and Mrs. Claus were in attendance to greet the children and to pose for photos at the reception in the mansion's downstairs. Kate wasted no time in climbing right up in his lap. She sure enjoyed her candy cane, too.

It was hard to wrangle Kate in the crowd by myself and get a lot of pictures, but I managed to snap a few.

Here is Kate on the lawn with the tree in the background.

A nice man offered to take one of us.

After the outdoor ceremony, guests are invited to walk through the ground level of the mansion, which is decorated for Christmas. This was my absolute favorite of any of the decor I have seen in the years I have attended. The whole room had a candy theme. I didn't get pictures of everything, but I tried to get the highlights ...

The table is set. These photos do not do the decor justice. If you get a chance to tour the mansion during the holidays, definitely do it!

A second, smaller tree in another part of the room

A candy bar! YUM! So colorful and fun!

In another room, this train was circling a beautifully decorated tree. Kate loved it!

Look who we ran into downstairs! It's William--he is looking more grown-up every time we see him.

Ho! Ho! Ho!

Kate in front of a tree downstairs. The floor was very slick, and she kept sliding around in those shoes.

We arrived home about the same time as Tanna--here he is with Kate in the garage. Guess who enjoyed her candy cane on the drive home ...

  3. It was sooo good to see you guys! Thanks again for letting us know of this event. We really enjoyed it! I agree the photos do not do justice to the decor. I love love the candyland dining table set up.

  4. You're a brave woman to go without Tanna. Looks like fun!
