Christmas Ornaments: Churches

I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD. --Psalm 122:1

Church is and has been a big part of my life. I am a traditional sort of person, so I have a special place in my heart for beautiful, traditional church buildings with steeples, stained glass and all the works. (Nothing against contemporary churches--after all, the Church is made up of the people. But this is about the church buildings.) :o)

Church is also a big part of Christmas. Going to church at Christmastime--and celebrating the birth of Jesus with special hymns and programs--has always been special to me. From the first Sunday of Advent up until the Christmas Eve service, I look forward to this season and cherish the memories that are made each year. From time to time, when I look at these church ornaments, I am reminded of those memories, including participating in annual Christmas programs ... going caroling with fellow church members ... attending the midnight service on Christmas Eve ... the list goes on ...

I am thankful for the churches in my life that have helped shape who I am and that have served as places of refuge and worship. In these churches, I have learned so much about God and His Word ... and about myself. I am most grateful for my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, whose birth we celebrate--in church and throughout the world--every Christmas season.

This ornament (also pictured above) opens up to reveal a Nativity scene at the altar.

This church ornament has a little place in the back where you can insert a light, which illuminates the windows, etc.

This simple wooden church ornament is from the 1980s. All of these ornaments were made by Hallmark.

  1. I'll bet you can't wait until Kate is old enough to participate in the festive plays at Church. :)

  2. Couldn't agree more on how you put emphasis on Church on Christmas. I love it. Growing up my parents put such great importance on the true meaning of Christmas. Nine days before Christmas day, our family would go to church early in the morning (abt 4 AM) and pray with our community. I always thought it was sooo beautiful!

  3. I love all of these. I don't have any churches, just the Magi and the shepherds and some nativity ornaments.
